Alan Johnston

Alan Johnston bannerAs Reporters without Borders reports, being a journalist is increasingly dangerous; more journalists have died in Iraq than during the whole Vietnamese conflict. So far this year: 23 journalists and 5 media assistants have been killed; 124 journalists and 4 media assistants have been imprisoned; and 62 cyberdissidents (bloggers and others) have been imprisoned.

BBC correspondent Alan Johnston was abducted in Gaza on 12 March; he has not been freed and there has been an unsubstantiated claim that he has been killed.
